COMMODORE:

The title Commodore was first used at the end of the 17th century by the dutch navy. It was used for a captain in the navy in command of a squadron but without having the title of an admiral.
A commissioned officer in the navy formerly ranking above captain and below rear admiral and having an insignia of one star.
